Talking About the Past:  The Preterite of -er and -ir Verbs

Notice that -er and -ir verb endings are the same in the preterite:

Comer:  Yo comí

Vivir:  Yo viví

 Comer:  Nosotros comimos

Vivir: Nosotros vivimos
Comer:  Tú comiste

Vivir:  Tú viviste

 Comer:  Vosotros comisteis

Vivir:   Vosotros vivisteis
Comer:  Él, ella, Ud. comió

Vivir:   Él, ella, Ud. vivió

 Comer:  Ellos, Uds. comieron

Vivir:  Ellos, Uds. vivieron
